Fort Morgan was active during the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World Wars 1 and 2. Today, it serves as a historical monument for tourists and visitors. The fort is at the western end of Highway 180, 22 miles west of Highway 59, in Gulf Shores. It can also be reached from Dauphin Island by way of the Mobile Bay auto ferry. The physical address is 51 Highway 180 West, Gulf Shores, AL 36542.
Insurance in Fort Morgan
The area that we call Fort Morgan, which is really Gulf Shores, is a strip of land that is right on the water. Many people buy beach houses in this area to stay at for the summer. Most places on the strip are anywhere from 0 to ½ a mile from the bay or the gulf. As a result, the insurance prices for a lot of companies are typically higher than they would be in an area farther away from the water.
Some places on Fort Morgan are considered “COBRA zone”. The Costal Barrier Resource Act (COBRA) removed the Federal government from financial involvement associated with building and development in undeveloped portions of designated coastal barriers (including the Great Lakes). Usually, flood insurance comes from the federal government. However, the government cannot provide flood insurance in COBRA zones. One advantage of insuring with us is that we can provide flood insurance in COBRA zones.
