Protection Class & Insurance
Different towns have a different protection classes for their fire stations. Some fire stations respond better than others. If your house catches fire, it helps to be somewhat close to a fire station and a fire hydrant for damages to be minimized. Lower protection class means lower cost of homeowner’s insurance. Higher protection class means higher cost of homeowner’s insurance.
If your home is far away from a fire station, you could be paying 15% more for house insurance than if it was close to a fire station and a hydrant. Every town has different protection classes. Sometimes a town has 3 protection classes, for example, class 3, class 6, and class 9. Typically, class can be figured by distance to the fire station and/or fire hydrant. It all depends on how the fire station near you is equipped. Some fire stations, such as Elberta or Perdido Beach, have fire tanker trucks. In that situation, fire hydrants are out of the equation.
